Hints & Tips for Surviving Construction
From the DPN Surviving Construction TeamMoving Forward…
Project leaders and community partners should remain mindful of these core principles as they embark on efforts to plan and prepare for construction:
Don't Wait.
Maximize the time leading up to the construction project to plan and prepare.
Get Involved. Stay Involved.
Provide opportunities for stakeholders and residents to get involved, and challenge them to “step up” and be part of a historic project.
Establish Mutual Goals and Priorities.
Embrace the the fact that it’s in everyone’s best interest to complete a quality project within a timeframe that recognizes the needs of all stakeholders.
Learn from Others.
Learn from the experiences of other businesses, districts and communities that have completed major construction projects to apply and adapt what works, and to avoid common pitfalls and mistakes.
Plan Your Work. Work Your Plan.
Be pro-active, identify issues, anticipate challenges, troubleshoot problems, devise a plan, and work the plan.
Make History!
Focus on the end product and seize on the rare opportunity to create a quality project and “look” that will help to define the district and community for 20, 30 or even 40 or more years into the future.
