The Surviving Construction Tech Visit
A Downtown Professionals Network Signature ServiceGetting Started
Our popular Surviving Construction Tech Visit helps mobilize communities and organizations to plan and prepare. The tech visit is orchestrated to engage stakeholders and to focus local resources on solutions and tools to effectively address project-related issues and concerns. A customized Preparing for Construction guide containing a proposed action agenda is provided in follow-up to help steer the efforts of local project leaders and volunteers.
We use the two-day tech visit itinerary example appearing below as a starting point. We customize the itinerary for each visit in consultation with the client and with consideration for a number of other factors such as: the status of the project’s design and engineering phase; the anticipated ground-breaking date; the level of organization in the community; and the unique circumstances or special needs of the client.
Example: Two-day Tech Visit Itinerary
Day One
- Meet with client representatives to review schedule, objectives, etc.
- Meet with municipal project leaders and/or other project representatives (i.e., DOT, engineers, designers, etc.) that have knowledge of the project’s background, status, scope and schedule.
- Work session with local project team or task force, if already organized.
- Walking/driving tour of project area to perform visual assessment and identify examples of potential problems and situations that might require special attention in advance of, or during, construction.
- Surviving Construction presentation and stakeholder roundtable to share and discuss project information, examples, hints and tips.
Day Two
- Work time for additional data gathering, interviews, etc.
- Local project team or task force work session with presentation of observations, findings, proposed strategies and action steps.
- Follow-up work and/or exit session with local staff members.
Deliverable
Within thirty days following the site visit, we prepare and deliver a customized Preparing for Construction Guide containing a proposed Action Agenda. The document is delivered electronically in .pdf format.
